I AM READY

I Am Ready!

I AM Ready is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) curriculum. CBT helps participants understand the thoughts and emotions that influence behavior. CBT focuses on helping people identify and change destructive thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior.
Get the Most Out of the Curriculum

To maximize the effectiveness of teaching the I AM Ready curriculum,  instructors are encouraged to employ an interactive and student-centric approach. The curriculum assists instructors in this process.  Here are some key strategies that will help you get the most out the curriculum.

  1. Facilitate Active Engagement: Encourage students to actively participate in discussions, activities, and reflection exercises. Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences.

  2. Tailor Instruction: Recognize the diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and needs of students. Adapt teaching methods and materials to cater to individual preferences and ensure that all students can fully engage with the curriculum content.

  3. Foster Critical Thinking: Encourage students to question assumptions, challenge their existing thought patterns, and critically analyze the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Provide opportunities for students to apply critical thinking skills to real-life situations.

  4. Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer constructive feedback that helps students identify areas for improvement and build on their strengths. Encourage a growth mindset, emphasizing that mistakes are opportunities for learning and growth.

  5. Connect Theory to Practice: Help students see the practical relevance of the curriculum concepts in their everyday lives. Provide examples and case studies that illustrate how cognitive behavioral strategies can be applied to manage challenges and enhance well-being.

  6. Cultivate Self-Reflection: Incorporate reflective exercises that prompt students to examine their own thinking patterns, beliefs, and behaviors. Encourage students to identify personal goals and develop action plans for implementing positive changes.

  7. Encourage Peer Support: Foster a sense of community and collaboration among students. Facilitate group discussions, peer feedback sessions, and collaborative projects that allow students to learn from each other and support one another’s growth.

By implementing these strategies and recognizing their presence in the curriculum, instructors can create a dynamic and engaging learning experience that empowers students to develop self-awareness, critical thinking skills, and practical strategies for managing their thoughts and behaviors.

I AM Ready utilizes Cognitive Instructional Design (CID) principles to enhance learner outcomes and experiences. CID employs a gradual release model, spreading learning over time to promote mastery and independence. Research supports this model, showing increased participation, confidence, and skill mastery.

The DNA of I AM Ready consists of three hierarchal elements.

UNITS

The entire scope of the curriculum program is divided into thematic units. Units are 6-8 hours in length. There are eight units of instruction in I AM Ready.

Each of the eight units in I AM Ready follows the gradual release model, allowing learners to progressively deepen their understanding and application of content. Each Unit is divided into 4 lessons.

LESSONS

Lessons are divisions of a unit. Lessons are 1.5-2 hours in length. EACH unit in I AM Ready contains four lessons. There are 32 total lessons within I AM Ready

SPRINTS

To manage cognitive demand and attention, I AM Ready divides lessons into small, focused segments called sprints. Sprints are divisions of a lesson. Sprints are 5-25 minutes length.

These sprints facilitate continuous engagement and ease the cognitive load for both instructors and learners, optimizing teaching and learning experiences.

Each I AM Ready lesson contains between 7 and 12 sprints. The number varies among lessons.

8 Units

There are 8 Units in I am Ready Curriculum

Each Unit Contains 4 Lessons

Each I AM Ready unit contains four lessons. Each lesson is approximately 1.5 – 2 hours hours in length.

The units and lessons are designed to be delivered sequentially and follow a gradual release model of design.

Each Lesson Contains 7-12 sprints

Each I AM Ready lesson contains several sprints, often ranging between 7-12 short activities.

A sprint is a mini-lesson between 5 and 25 minutes long. Sprints break lessons into manageable learning chunks that are easier to digest and teach.
