    This topic is divided into 5 lessons.  

    Each lesson is 45 minutes – 1 hour in length.

    Unit 1

    Many learners struggle to identify ways that they can improve their learning experience, and this can negatively affect an individual’s mentality and sense of self.

     

    This unit provides students an opportunity to learn about themselves as individuals inside and outside the classroom, focusing on understanding concepts such as resiliency, self-affirmation, and self-care.

     

    It is important that students understand that resiliency is an integral part of teamwork, leadership, and healthy self-perception. These qualities will benefit learners as they learn to understand themselves and provide them tools to prepare for the future.

    Unit 2

    In this unit, learners will come to understand the value of courage and connect it to other concepts related to self-care as explored in Unit 1.

     

    Learners will be motivated to understand concepts like trust or fear and how it is connected to courage. Additionally, learners will understand how to use courage to facilitate mindfulness and self-regulation, develop a plan on how to achieve their goals, and how to better manage stress.

    Unit 3

    This unit is an exploration of self-advocacy and the merits that self-awareness and advocacy can bring. Learners are encouraged to explore what it means to be a self-advocate and how this is connected to concepts such as leadership, bias, and self-worth.

     

    With the use of role-play, learners will understand the importance of self-advocacy and how being a self-advocate is essential not only to your own well-being, but for the well-being of others.

    Unit 4

    Unit 4 is an exercise in critical or “flexible” thinking. Learners will learn what it means to think flexibly and how being mentally flexible can assist them in understanding different cultures, interpersonal relationships, and general problem-solving.

     

    By engaging students with a divergent thinking and demonstrating how flexibility can assist them, learners come to understand themselves better in relation to new or different concepts or ideas.

    Unit 5

    Unit 5 focuses on the value of empathy. Learners are motivated to understand and demonstrate empathy in a verbal and non-verbal way, focusing on developing a plan for understanding others and how to practice empathizing in difficult situations.

     

    Learners are prompted to think about how they empathize, who they empathize with, and the value of empathy as an upstanding member of society. These concepts are investigated on the individual scale and then extended to the group setting.

    Unit 6

    In this final unit, learners learn about integrity and what it means to practice integrity in their everyday lives. Through role-play, students identify what it means to have integrity in the real and digital world, an environment where anonymity makes integrity appear less important.

     

    As with the previous units, learners connect values with their personal life and how practicing integrity can improve quality of life, stress management, task prioritization, and interpersonal relationships.
